serve

I wonder what my life would be like without living in service.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Not everybody can be famous. But everybody can be great, because greatness is determined by service…You only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love”. My heart and soul are steeped in service to others. Community service is a visible thread of action woven throughout my history and my memories, beginning as a Brownie and then a Girl Scout. I served in multiple leadership roles on the Student Council in high school and the Student Government Association (SGA) in college. I was a Community Service Co-Chair in my sorority. I have volunteered for youth, education, and/or environmental organizations in every state and country where I have lived. I have been an educator for over 16 years, domestic and abroad. I am an alumna of AmeriCorps* VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) and a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV). I created Community Corps for South Riding (CCSR), a gift to myself and a full-circle capstone of local, national, and international service.

What does the future hold for me after June? I have no answer to reveal, other than service will remain an undercurrent of my choices.
